Ride of Silence Oberlin ACE Hardware
This will be our 5 th Annual Ride of Silence. Along with hundreds of other groups across the country we participate in this unique event. The event originated to memorialize friends who were killed while riding and to bring to drivers attention that they are sharing the road with bicycles . We go one step further and recall all Members who have passed while part of our organization. We have had two members die on bikes and quite a few more who have passed otherwise.
The ride is done single file, at a slow pace and in total silence. The Silver Wheels traditionally ride from Oberlin Depot on a 6 mile loop around Oberlin, with a police escort. Prior to the ride there is a short ceremony marking the occasion. One of the symbols for the Ride of Silence is wearing black arm bands during the ride. The club has some left from last year. It would be great if there was an enterprising soul in the group who might be able to sew together a few more for our ride. We need another 25 or so bands.
Hope you are planning to attend the Ride of Silence on Wednesday, May 17 at 5:00 p.m.
Details to follow as available.
