Steve Woosley Memorial Depot Day Rides 4 x 25 miles

Four 25 mile loop options are offered. (both clockwise and counter clockwise).  All routes start and end at the Oberlin Depot.  All routes offer a bathroom stop, generally near the mid-point.

This is a Map/YOYO (You’re On Your Own) ride.  Riding the trail is also recordable mileage. There are no designated ride leaders.  The routes are not marked and there is no SAG support.  A limited number of Route maps will be available at registration.  It is strongly recommended that you print your own.using the RWGPS event link below.

Riders are encouraged to ride with a partner and carry a cell phone.

Riders should sign in at the Depot prior to riding.  Riders are also encouraged to check back in when they are finished riding and to record their mileage for the day.

If you wish, this event is a nice chance to stretch yourself and achieve a personal record for ride length, do a century - metric or full - or just enjoy a fun ride in a familiar and friendly environment.  Do as many loops as you want, quit when you have had enough,

If any folks indicate a welcome to riding companions on the newsgroup, their announcements indicating intended star level, distance and start time will be posted here.

Additional details posted as available.

I’m asking for volunteers to sit at the Depot for Depot Days. Two hour shifts from 7 am to 5 pm. Bonus:  you get to “guard” the pizza and chocolate milk. Please respond to:

midwife@oberlin.net

Also, if you would like to contribute a recollection of Steve Woosley for a memory scrap book, please bring your photo(s) and/or written story to the Depot during Depot days. We’ll send it to Sandy.

Our plan are at this moment is to make our way north from Florida
the end of MAY……
Anybody wishing to join us at 9:15 am  at the Oberlin Depot
for a moment of remembrance of Steve Woosley is welcome
to join us,   (our way of remembering a  fellow cyclist)

At about 9:30 am ride a two star 25 mile loop,
or just ride up and down the bike trail...all depends on the weather and
healthy, breathing  ability.

Hope to see some of you there …..

Hank & Tina Baum (past members relocated to Florida)

If anyone wishes to join us at 9:15 am for a moment of remembrance of our friend Steve Woosley followed by a two star 25 mile loop or trail ride, as time allows, in his honor,  you would be most welcome.
Hank and Tina Baum expect to be there, up from their Florida home.

I plan to move up the start of my riding to 8 a.m.  The National Weather forecast calls for rain in the Oberlin area by 1 p.m.  I hope to get in at least two loops before the weather becomes a factor.  Given that the wind is to be out of the SW  then changing to the West, I plan to ride the south loop first followed by the west loop.

I'm planning to ride a century on Saturday at a moderate 3* pace, starting at 7:15 a.m. from the Depot. Tentative Routing:

South, DD, Counter, NCIT, Hamilton, Gifford, Austin    25 miles

North, DD, CW, Pyle S. Amherst, Quarry, Milan Ave.   26 miles

East, DD, CW, Parsons, Whitehead, Biggs  26 miles

Finish my last 23-24 miles on trail

Thus I will probably omit the west route.

Anyone is welcome to ride with me "with no commitments" to stay with me, or me them.   I'm not riding this as a "no drop" ride and don't expect those riding with me to do so.  People are welcome to ride one, two, three, all, or no loops with me!

Brief Depot stop after each loop.  Raining/ miserable will curtail my plans.

DO NOT HIT REPLY TO THIS EMAIL.  Contact me directly if you wish to communicate with me prior to the ride.

I am planning on riding at a slower pace, to preserve my knees.  Are there any 1+ star riders who might be interested in doing one loop, or just on the trail?  I would like to start riding at around 8:30, but am flexible on the time.

A group will be leaving the Depot at 8AM Saturday. The plan is to ride the trail to Elyria, then to Wakeman and back for 40 miles. After a lunch break, maybe a loop or two. We will be at a 2 star or 2+ pace. We are not technically leading the ride but anyone is welcome to start with us and keep up or do your own pace.
