All* Ride the Dog, Lagrange Community Park

  • Saturday, July 09, 2016
  • 7:00 AM
  • 424 West Main St. LaGrange, OH 44050

Saturday will be the annual "Ride The Dog" event. Starting point for the Club ride(s) is the Lagrange Community Park, on the south side of SR 303, 1/2 mile west of the traffic circle. This will be an opportunity for Club members to ride the routes for our annual invitational ride " Dog Days Wine Tour". Please understand that this is basically an unsupported map ride with no real services or leaders.  Additional information will be posted here as it becomes available.

6:00 am 4-* Edmonds 125 mile route

If interested, let me know. I plan to start at 6:00AM and ride a steady moderate 3+ to 4*- pace ( a little faster in the cool morning air).  Unlike previous years where I startede out at an open + +  and limped in at half a star minus minus with an overall average of 3+ to 4-, .I thought this time just ride the whole day in the 3+ to 4- range and get the same result only feeling a bit fresher at the end.

7:00 am 3* Paine/Perkins 65 mile route

Lynette Paine and I will be riding the 65 mile route on Saturday at a 3*pace.. starting at 7:00 a.m.
Come join us!
Pat Perkins

7:00 am 2+* D.Stout 45 mile route

Eleanor and I are planning to ride the 45 mile route and perhaps a little further if the legs hold up—mine not hers—at a 2*+ pace or perhaps a little faster depending on the wind. To make the most of the morning coolness we are planning to leave the park  at  7 a.m.. We would enjoy the company of anyone who would like to join us.

7:00 am 3* Wailes/Weber

Deb Wailes and I are going to do the 125 mile route, but will be starting from Oberlin ACE at 7:00 a.m.  Our pace will be a moderate 3*.  Potentially Jose' Morell and Gary Scmhitt are also riding with us.  If you would like to join our group, just be ready to ride at 7:00 a.m. from Oberlin ACE.  I am not a "ride leader" for this ride ... simply a coordinator inviting other like minded/like distance riders to join us.
Bring snacks with you ... I haven't seen the route on paper yet, but it appears that in some areas we won't be able to purchase snacks without deviating from the route and thus adding miles.
Our "rest stops" are at the following intervals ... however many will not have food unless you bring it with you:
Start at Oberlin ACE:  Restroom at McDonalds
Jilbert Winery:  17.1 mi. into the ride.  Will not be open, however we will stop at the gas station/convenience store at the corner of 303 and 82 which is on the route (I believe) and is shortly before we pass the winery. Restrooms, water, snacks available there.
Lagrange Community Park:  35 mi. into our ride.  Port-a-potties but no food. I think there is a fountain by the food concession stand where we can refill water bottles.  Tom will be driving our van and starting from Lagrange earlier, and I plan to have a cooler with fruit in the van which I will share with other riders in our group.
Peck-Wadsworth Rest Stop:  53 mi. into our ride.  There will be NOTHING there on "Ride the Dog" day and no food stops/restrooms that I can think of in the immediate vicinity.
Matus Winery:  76 mi. into our ride.  I'm not sure whether the winery will be open at the time we arrive or not.  If it's open, we can use the restroom there.
Sherod Park:  95 mi. into our ride.  Port-a-potty.  Not sure of route here ... maybe we can hit a gas station/convenience store coming into or leaving Vermilion.
Vermilion Valley Vinyards:  106 mi. into our ride.  There is supposed to be a cooler of Silver Wheels snacks somewhere, but by the time our group gets there it may be empty.  VVV should be open by the time we arrive there so restrooms will be available.
Oberlin ACE / END of Ride:  125 mi.  We can celebrate!
All of the above mileages, etc. are based on a "Table of Distances Per Route Per Stop" chart which Ed Stewart sent to this year's rest stop captains based on the tentative routes about a month ago.  I have no idea whether these really coincide with the actual route we will be riding tomorrow.
Send your response directly to my e-mail address (below) or call me if you wish to communicate with me.

8:00 am 3* B. Burkhardt 45 mile route

Probable rest stop (approximately 27 mile mark) at Miller’s Ice Cream on SR 113 just west of Gore Orphanage.

8:00 am 2* M.Pesetsky 37/46 mile route

The 37 and 46 mile routes are essentially the same route, but the 46 mile route takes an excursion to Vermilion Valley vineyards. At about mile 21 we'll make a decision on whether to go short or go long.
Let me know if you plan to ride with us?
