3* Head of the Cuyahoga Regatta - P. Doheny 20+ miles

Join us as we watch the 24th Annual Head of the Cuyahoga Regatta  and bike around downtown CLE, Edgewater Park, and Tremont.

The ride is a 3* because of some of the hills we will be riding in the area and not because of the pace.

The plan is to park at Abbey Ave parking lot (across and close to Sokolowski’s between 13 and 14 street and under the highway) and head out on the new bikeway to view the regatta from multiple locations including Merwin’s Wharf at Rivergate Park,  Carter Rd bridge, and Hart Crane Park. The areas will be very busy and congested so we may need to walk the bikes. There will be loads of food vendors. After viewing some of the events we will leave the Flats. We plan to ride through the city and along the lake on the N Marginal Road out to Martin Luther King BLvd and reverse route back to east 9th and the Browns stadium. The route continues through downtown and to Edgewater Park and return to Abbey Ave via bike trails and local roads and more viewing of the regatta for those who are interested. If time permits we can explore the new bike trail into the Tremont/Steelyard Commons area. Bring a bike lock.

In September of 1856, the first rowing competition on the Cuyahoga River took place and the tradition continues. The Head of the Cuyahoga began in 1996, as a successor to 7 years of sprint racing inside the break-wall of Lake Erie.  The HOTC averages 450+ entries, 2000+ rowers from 60+ different clubs over 15+ states, racing on one of the most technically challenging head racing courses in the country. In 2011, the Cleveland Rowing Foundation hosted the Head of the Cuyahoga in their new home, Rivergate Park. Since 2013, the regatta has grown annually attracting more clubs from across the country in hopes of successfully tackling the mighty HOTC course.
