SEE REVISED PLAN: 3*/4-* SW Hancock Horizontal short ride P.J. Doheny/ Schneider 66 miles

  • Saturday, September 12, 2020
  • 9:00 AM
  • 200 East Main Cross St., Findlay, OH 45840

NOTE: SEE REVISED PLAN at the end of this entry.

These rides are a Star Chase.  Both groups will use the same route.  Unlike a typical Club ride, the leader of the faster group will not slow the ride for any rider who can not maintain the pace, instead leaving them behind to be picked up by the trailing slower group.  The trailing group will leave no rider behind.

We'll be riding the 31 miles short route that was planned for this year's Hancock Horizontal Hundred.  As you have likely heard, the Hancock Handlebars Bicycle Club has made the difficult decision to cancel the HHH due to the coronavirus.  However, they will be posting the planned route(s) and inviting bicyclists to ride on their own anytime during the month of September.

The ride will start at 1:30 p.m. from the  Findlay Inn & Conference Center, four blocks east of the Marathon Center for the Performing Arts, where the Route map begins.(Several folks are staying at the Findlay Inn Saturday night to be ready for the Sunday rides). There will not be restrooms at the start location.  .  This is NOT a supported ride.  No sag wagons.  No snack service, etc.  So, come prepared to carry sufficient water and snacks with you.  I'm sure there will be gas stations along the route which we can also stop at for purchase of refreshments.

Note: These rides can be combined with some Sunday rides from the Marathon Center to make it a  full riding weekend in Findlay.  Several members are staying in Findlay Saturday night in order to take advantage of the local riding.  For questions contact Eva Weber at:

Club covid-19 protocols enforced.

This is the final year of the HHH.  It's a ride on which many of our club members rode their first century on the flat roads of Hancock County.  We have enjoyed a number of HHH century rides over the years and are sad to hear that the Hancock Handlebars Bicycle Club will disband at the end of this year due to declining participation in this ride and declining membership/volunteers to conduct this ride.

3*/4-* Route

******************* REVISED PLAN **************************

Looking at the weather for this Saturday and Sunday in Findlay, the ride leaders have talked and decided to alter the start times and route distances as follows:

Saturday

Start rides at 9 a.m. from Findlay Inn & Conference Center, 200 E. Main Cross Street, Findlay

66 mile route (only 31 miles will count as club miles, as posted)

3+ PJ Doheny

4-  Sue Schneider

We should be able to finish this ride before the rain comes in late afternoon.

Sunday

Start rides at 9:30 a.m. from Marathon Center for Performing Arts, 200 W. Main Cross Street, Findlay (start time may be delayed if rain has not subsided)

3+ Norm Diederich

3-  Eva Weber

3* PJ Doheny

We will ride the first half of the 31 mile route (approx. 15 mi.) to get to the box lunch stop which some of us have registered for (deadline for requesting that has passed).  Leaving the lunch stop Norm and Eva will pick up the remainder of the 100 mile route (approx. 50 mi.) for a total of approx. 65 miles. PJ will either finish the 31 mile route (if there are riders wanting to ride the shorter route) or may also pick up the remainder of the 100 mi. route if there are no 31 mi. riders in their group. Any distance up to 100 miles can be reported as club miles on Sunday, since that was the max. distance in the original club calendar posting. Norm may add parts of other routes to get 100 miles on Sunday.

We are asking ANYONE planning to ride either on Saturday or Sunday to phone or text Peggy Doheny and inform her of your plans as to which ride, pace and distance you tentatively plan on.

We hope to see some of you in Findlay Saturday and/or Sunday.  This will be our last year to ride a Hancock Horizontal Hundred route...I wish the weather was going to be more cooperative on Sunday to go with our original ride plans.
