All* Woosley Depot Day, Abram Pavilion 4x25 miles

  • Saturday, June 05, 2021
  • 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
  • 293 South Main St., Oberlin, OH, 44074

Steve Woosley Memorial Depot Day Rides 4 x 25 miles

This ride was first proposed and organized by club member Steve Woosley. The name was changed in 2019 to honor his memory.

Four 25 mile loop options are offered. (both clockwise and counter clockwise).  All routes start and end at the Oberlin George Abram Pavilion east of McDonalds, next to the gasholder building lot off the Auto Zone lot.

This is a Map/YOYO (You’re On Your Own) ride.  Riding the trail is also recordable mileage. There are no designated ride leaders.  The routes are not marked and there is no SAG support.    It is strongly recommended that you print your own.map/cues using the RWGPS event link below.

Riders are encouraged to ride with a partner and carry a cell phone.

Riders should sign in at the Pavilion prior to riding, or if starting before 8 a.m., stop in between segments.  Riders are also encouraged to check back in when they are finished riding and to record their mileage for the day.

If you wish, this event is a nice chance to stretch yourself and achieve a personal record for ride length, do a century - metric or full - or just enjoy a fun ride in a familiar and friendly environment.  Do as many loops as you want, quit when you have had enough,

Contact Dennis Stout at dbstout@windstream.net with any questions or if you willing to serve as a registration minder during the day. I hope to have enough people volunteer to set up one hour shifts for most of the day.

Additional details posted as available.

Long range forecast for Saturday. WSW 9 mph

Peggy did such a nice job of explaining the ride plan for Saturday that I am using her description!

I hope to ride at a 3+ pace.  I will start at 7:00.  Please bring electronic or paper cue sheets in case you ride faster or slower than I do.  Bring liquids and snacks for fuel.

I would like to ride the century, but it all depends on the conditions being just right.

You are welcome to join us, but I am not leading the ride.  It is a YOYO, or you're on your own, ride.  You can ride as many loops as you want.

I have included .pdf cue sheet files for the 3 Depot Day routes..

My additions to the e-mail below are in fuchsia.  I plan to ride only two routes (I will be prepared for all 3 listed below) and will be ready to ride at 7am.  I think the first route would finish around 8:30am and the second route would leave 8:45am?  Feel free to join me or faster riders group off ahead

Latest update 17:00 Friday 6/4

Due to a road closure the 7am route is updated.  A better idea is to ride the course CLOCKWISE.  I would like to ride the course clockwise if there is no objection.  We will avoid the traffic jam on the North Coast Inland Trail with the other riders and the route is better suited to the wind direction.  Best to just load both in your computer in case we need to put it to a vote.

CLOCKWISE:

North, W/Detour, CW, Amherst 25.6mi 539ft

COUNTER CLOCKWISE

3.1 North, W/Detour, CCW, Amherst (copy) 25.6mi 473ft

See you tomorrow morning,

Nancy

I will be riding the south route (clockwise) starting at 8AM at a 2+ pace.

Anyone can join me as a YOYO ride. Bring your own cue sheets in case we don’t stay together.

I will be riding the southern loop, probably counterclockwise if anyone wants to join the group. The route includes Peck-Wadsworth Rd. and there are some hills. Departure will be around 9a.m.   Dennis Stout
